Prompt for thinking through your pitch in relation to this brief:

what is the focus of your project in relation to the cinematic spaces brief?
my space centres around the idea of `moving image, how perspective postion can change the outcome in which we see, and how this relates to the cinmatic spaces brief as its a cinematic tool used

what do you know about your project, and how you are going to articulate that?
currently, im centred around the idea of creating a space that brings people together, drawing in the passing community by playing with their perspectives and peaking interest, I know I want to create a hospitality and communal working space to draw in different types of communities and have them together communally.

what is your key relation to the site?
this space is overlooked, an unwanted run down lane that people don't take a second look at, where it runs from fort lane to queenstreet becoming this lineal connection that is seen as a waste of space, I want to take this space and turn it into the oppisite, becoming a haven for community and meeting new people.

what specific community is your design proposal in service of?
my design is there to help connect the surronding community of fort lane and queen street, a space that people can occupy and collect to build new relationship, create new work.

how did your cinematic device document the site? and how did you respond to those findings?
my site device distorted the site which gave me a new perspective, seeing the kalidescope in conjuction with the sound mapping visual made me realise all the compents that make up this site, where the sound mapping was affected mostly by the footsteps made by partipants walking through the site. These findings made me think of how fort lane isnt looked at other than a short cut through the site, used by cars as transport and as people as a faster route, this made me think how can I slow this action, and make people see fort lane in a new light just as my device did

Discussion...
after answering questions, I read my pitch out loud, this allowed an opportunity to gain some feedback,

- how do you plan to drawn in the surrounding community
- what motivates this idea?

This discussion allowed me to think deeper into my concepts and ideas and how to develop further

First Pitch
Imperial Lane is forgotten, unused, left behind, I want to create a space that elevates the surroundings of imperial lane, connecting the surrounding community and developing a space for people to connect with one another. When thinking about cinematic space I become interested in how an image is layered through colour, and how ones perspective can shift how we see an image

Nobuhiro Nakanishi
Layer Drawings

when looking for artist models I came across this work by Nobuhiro Nakanishi, where it reminded me of my threshold exploration from last week, I am drawn to how this artwork creates an image out of these acrylic panels, and how it introduces depth into the image/artwork,

Site Visit
I went back to site to get another look at aspects I may of forgotten, I wanted to try and place aspects like the elevator, stairs, support beams etc to try and understand the layout and sequence of the site

I started to visualise my facade sketches and investigating how each one would interact with the space,

This site visit helped me to dig deeper into my ideas as before when visiting the site I was still unaware of what direction I was going in, where now my eyes are focused on a perspective that incorporates the design values of my idea, and how I might execute these design values

Janet Echelman, 1.8 Renwick, 2015,

I came across this exhibition and was drawn straight away to how this space is transformed just by undulating colored fabric suspended from the ceiling, I become memorised by the relfections and shadows made onto the surrounding walls, the colours and projecting lights create a whole new feeling to the space, where people can't help but admire the netting that has transformed the ceiling.
Children are invited to lay and roll on the ground, staring up into the nets and accompany undulating lights. This exhibition is made to translate the map of energy released during the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, where Janet has transformed this geological event into an abstract exhibition, where the knotted net contrasts the events that happen all around us on a daily basis and how as human we can not control these forces

This piece has made m interested in the deeper meaning behind an exhibition and although this event is so ascetically pleasing it was created to enforced wider concepts and ideas

I really like the emission these relfections created and wanna see how I can incorporated this concept in my own design, this is a space I want to spend all day in,

I started to explore ideas for creating a layered facade, I became interested in developing something that connected fort lane to queen street through imperial lane, creating the shift in perspective that enforced connectivity through the lane, I feel a design that connects the two entry points enforces the principles behind my design idea

- bringing people together
- activating imperial lane
- being a space that people feel welcomed

through this facade I started to explore incorporating the concept behind CMYK, The CMYK color model (also known as process color, or four color) is a subtractive color model, based on the CMY color model, used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself. CMYK refers to the four ink plates used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMYK_color_model)

From my surface design exploration I became really interested in the aspect of colours within an image, how translating this into a interior facade becomes a standpoint of a 'moving image' through walking through the space the colour field using yellow, pink and blue, creates colours with the glass from every perspective,

I wanted to use this interior/exterior facade in conjunction with the CMYK colour filed to bring in a new vibrant aspect to imperial lane, creating a moving image as people walk through the space

I started to develop variations of different types of facades that took into consideration layering, the idea of creating a new perspective, I took inspiration from my site device, and experimentation from layering images

I found it helpful to use rhino to get out heaps of ideas, making sure to take into considerations why I am choosing this type of layer, what is my reasoning behind this

I took into consideration how to make this facade seem inviting and shift the perspective on the space, where I started to play around with an idea where the facade extends into the interior

I did this because I started to think why is IMPERIAL LANE always forgotten and dismissed, its because surrounding people arent aware that this is an open space, where its available to the public, by creating a facade that gives a direct indication to the opening of this building it will allow nearby passers that this space is open and accesible

I stared to think more into this creating more model iterations

asking why and how trying to push further
